Mon. Feb. 11 - ENGLISH 8

Today we started with some independent reading from our novels. Remember to track important events that occur in your novel using the "Log" sheet that was handed out at the start of Friday's class. You will be doing a "book report" at some point before the March Break on your novel (or one of your novels if you find yourself speeding through your books!)

Today we moved into our next unit - Oral Narratives with a focus on myths. We:
1) Watched a video defining mythology and some of the issues we can have around myths that have been passed down for generations.
2) Zoomed in on Greek Mythology - an example
3) short note: Characteristics of a myth
4) Independent Reading: Chinese Creation Myths - Read the various versions then answer:

 a) Choose one version from the reading and identify how it meets the characteristics of myths. Write your response in a few senetences

b) Try: Try to infer aspects of the culture of the time that these myths were created based on some clues in the myth.
