Wed./Thurs. June 5/6

Our poetry assignments have been handed in (or should have been handed in!!)
This week
Today we finished Chapter 11. We will read Ch. 12 next class.
Today was the last block to work on the Newspaper project. Most students were able to finish this up given this time frame. Some of you may need to spend another 20 minutes formatting it, but this will need to be done on your own time

Fri. May 31, 2019 - ENGLISH 8

Both classes have now finished Chapter 10.
QUIZ CH. 5-9 on Monday.

This week we have completed the 3 poems. You had time today to finish the good copies. These should be handed in for Monday. Remember, 1 of the 3 good copies should have an artistic/colourful element to it.

Next week: Finish novel, work on newsletters.

Mon and Tues, May 27/28 - ENGLISH 8

Today we:
1) Recapped the important events in Chapter 6/7. Then we read part of Chapter 8 together. Finish this chapter for next class (Wed. or Thurs)
2) Poetry Assignment. We went over examples and form of specific types of poems. Reminder to include poetic devices in your poems.
3) Class time to complete the rough copies of your poems. Come to next class with rough copies complete (or almost complete). Class time next class for good copies (and design).

Thurs. and Fri classes: "Newspaper Project" computer block.

1) Took a note on Poetic Devices (literary devices)
2) Practice handout on these
3) Finish the "Robert Frost" poem worksheet (hand in)
4) Recap chapter 6
5) Read chapter 7 for Monday

Tues. May 21 - English 8

We have been reading The Outsiders.

Today we:
1) read chapter 5 together in class
2) Completed chapter 5 comprehension questions
3) Completed the first page of Robert Frost's poem in the novel. (handout). We will analyze the poem tomorrow.

Tues. May 7 - English 8

Today we continued on with our Aboriginal Short Story unit.

1) We learned about indigenous oral history and stories (who tells them, why they are sacred)

2) Finished "When The Spirits Dance" story and discussed the effects of WWII on the culture of Aboriginals (both who fought and those who didn't).

3) Read the poem and intro to Residential Schools in Canada.

4) Read the short story, "When I was Eight"

5) Completed the "Story Map"

Friday, May 3 - ENGLISH 8

On Thursday, we presented our "Life on the Manor" skits. These were amazing.

During the double block this week (Wed for 3/4, Fri for 7/8), we worked on:

a) Some sentence variety practice - how to mix it up in your writing
b)The Hero paragraph (the pink outline should have been completed for today) - an hour to work on this
c) Socratic circle - discussing Heroes over time
