WED/THURS FEB. 27/28 - ENGLISH 8

Today we had some time in class to read our independent novel and complete the accompanying
"Story Map" (or start it).  We will be reporting on our Independent Novel AFTER March Break to ensure everyone has time to finish theirs (Some are longer than others!)

Today we:
1) Worked on how to make inferences (background knowledge, clues from the text, reasoning), practicing with comics first.
2) We then did a short note on "THEME" and how to identify it in stories.
3) Rotate activity: In a group, read short passage and identify the theme, providing the evidence in text that supports it.

After break,
1) Oral Storytelling - how to do a good job (my demo...)
2) Oral Storytelling Assignment: Read over a myth with your partner, complete the "Story Map" for your myth, then practice orally retelling the myth. We will have a "Story Telling Cafe" next Tuesday where you will sit in a small group and orally retell your myth.

no homework (well... read your novel and perhaps practice orally retelling your story)
